Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim has chosen a five - member international commis sion Sunday to probe Iran’s grievances against the deposed shah and the United States agreed to the selections. George Bush won all 14 of Puerto Rico’s Republican con vention delegates Sunday in the first presidential primary of 1980. He defeated Sen. Howard Baker of Tennessee by a 3-2 margin in the winner-take all primary. Buddy Baker won the Daytona 500 Grand National stock car race Sunday. It’s amazing how excellent athletes can make a difficult feat look so easy. The Winter Olympics at Lake Placid, N. Y. are a joy to watch on television. Tonight the State Basketball Playoff begin. The Tryon girls and boys play at Tryon and the Polk Central girls go to Cullowhee. The Model United Nations session of Tryon and Polk Central students continues at the Court house in Columbus today. (Rudy) Hudson was named “Fireman of the Year” Wednesday night at the Tryon Firemen’s Ladies Night at Caro-Mi Dining Room. The presentation was made by Tryon Mayor Ken Tucker. A native of Polk County, Mr. Hudson is a graduate of Tryon High School and is employed by Carolina Yarn Processors. He is married to the former Janet Tucker and they have two sons, Darrin and Kevin. They make their home on Grady Avenue and attend the Tryon First Baptist Church. Mr. Hudson has been a member of the Tryon Volunteer Fire Department for 12 years. He has been active in the Polk County Little League where he has served as coach, manager, umpire and is presently vice president. He is a certified Continued On Back Page Price 10c Per Copy Playoffs Tonight Tonight the Tryon girls and boys play the first round of the State Playoff at the Tryon gym. The Tryon girls (15-6) tied for first place in the Appalachian Conference and lost the coin toss with Edneyville and are the No. 2 seed team. They will play Robinsville the No. 3 seeded team in the Smoky Mtn. Conference at 6:30 p.m. The Tryon boys (21-1), the No. 1 seeded team in the Appalachian Conference will play Hiwassee Dam, the No. 4 seeded team in the Smoky Mtn. Conference. The Polk Central girls, the No. 3 seeded team in the Appalachian Conference will play Cullowhee, the No. 2 seeded team of the Smokey Mtn. Conference at 7:30 p.m. at Cullowhee. House Burned The Columbus Volunteer Fire Department was called out Saturday about 6:30 a.m. to a house onPrince Road. The house, which was completely destroyed had been built recently by George Worthington and was listed for sale. The cause of the fire was not known as no one had lived in the house.
